Ask the Professional

On the 20th October twenty local companies sent recent apprentices / graduates to talk to the Y13s about what it is really like to work in their company.

The new employees gave very helpful 'warts and all' accounts of what working life was like, how they got into their lines of work and top tips on the recruitment process. Run in a speed-dating format, the students got five minutes to chat before a whistle was blown ... apparently my whistle blowing technique was substandard, but luckily my organisational skills were better and the students moved around the room like clockwork. This event was repeated on the 30th November for Y11 students and I would like to thank both year groups for joining in so enthusiastically.

Giving students direct assess to employers is an important part of the careers programme at Archway, for not only does it enable students to learn about the world of work, but it also provides opportunities to secure work experience, apprenticeships and other networking opportunities - we have lots more careers events planned for next term.
