The Brilliant Club, Year 9s
Miss Lee and Mrs Jowett took 12 Year 9s to the University of Warwick for the launch of The Brilliant Club which aims to show students what university has to offer and to take part in tutorials run by a PhD student.
The University of Warwick is very large which was shown by the fact our guide from the car park got us lost on our way to the lecture theatre! However, we soon found our way again and we were introduced to our PhD student, Amber, who has been assigned to us. The students then had their tutorial with Amber, followed by a tour of the University. The students were shown the sports hall, the library and some of the lecture theatres. It was an exciting day which really gave our students a taste of what life would be like at university, both social and academic.
This day will be followed by six more tutorials in school from Amber on the topic of ‘Biology – Understanding Viral Infections: Ebola’. Our students will then submit a 2000 word essay which will be marked to degree standards! They will then have a graduation ceremony, just like a real university student.
