Year 9 Holocaust Day

On 13th October all Year 9 students were off timetable for the day studying lesser known events of the Holocaust.

The lessons covered a variety of topics linked to the Holocaust, including personal testimony from those involved, calculating pie charts to show the number of displaced persons during World War II and contemporary instances of hate crime.

One group of students worked in the art rooms all day creating visual images based on diaries written by a family transported from Dusseldorf to Latvia, alongside the personal testimony of a guard on their train.  Other students investigated how a kind act could travel from Germany to Sweden and on to Africa via the kinder transport and child sponsorship.

Students found the day moving as well as informative and staff were impressed by the commitment and engagement of our students. Students’ work is now displayed in the art rooms and F block corridor.
