Local Entreprenuer Shares Business Knowledge with Year 13 BTEC Business Students
The Y13 BTEC Business students really benefited from a recent trip to The Vault, Nailsworth.
We were welcomed to the new tapas bar where Caroline Saturley (joint-owner) shared her business knowledge and gave the students a valuable insight into how to set up and manage a business. It was fascinating to learn how Caroline and her husband started their first hospitality business, The Canteen in Nailsworth, 6 years ago. Sheer hard work and a flexible approach to customer needs enabled the couple to develop a good reputation, expand and invest in their second business - The Hog in Horsley and most recently, The Vault in Nailsworth. Caroline explained how innovation, consistency and quality are essential elements of a successful business. She stressed the importance of winning food awards, as this not only helped her and staff to constantly review and improve but also generates positive publicity.
Caroline was able to share some financial advice relating to managing cash flow and offer practical tips to minimise the start up costs of a new business. The students were able to appreciate how much attention to detail is required when refurbishing a new venue during a tour of both The Vault and The Canteen.
Our Y13 Business students have now commenced Unit 36, ‘Starting a New Business’ and the visit provided an invaluable starting point to the unit, whilst enabling the students to benefit from professional advice and experience a commercial environment at first hand. We would like to pass on our thanks and appreciation to Caroline Saturley.
