Visit from an Actor
Some students in Year 8 have been studying The Tempest and we were fortunate to be able to invite Graham Bill, a former teacher turned professional actor, to our class to talk about his experience of playing Caliban.
He provided us with an insight into a complex character and told us about his preparation for the role which included a painstaking hour applying full body paint! Graham talked about the demands of playing a figure who is both monstrous and one who asks for our sympathy. Students asked many searching questions and came to the conclusion that Caliban is not a monster, just misunderstood!
It was fascinating to hear about Graham's experiences of both playing this character and his wider film and TV roles and I would like to thank him very much for coming in and sharing his stories with us.
