Our Untold Stories
On 9th May 2017 Archway School hosted a morning of talks given by visiting speakers from 3 different minority ethnic groups in Gloucestershire: Karen Soo representing the Chinese community, Verona Vidal representing the Afro-Caribbean community and Naisha Hussain and her mother Nasreen Akhtar representing the Asian community. The event was organised by Mrs Ridley-Marshall and Ms Coleman.
The talks were based on an original project (entitled Our Untold Stories) initiated by Nasreen Akhtar 17 years ago when she worked for the Gloucestershire Library Service. The original project documented the lives and backgrounds of individuals belonging to the Chinese Community, the Asian community and the Afro-Caribbean community. The talks at Archway focused on the issues of being raised bilingually and biculturally: the challenges, the differences, the advantages. 60 Year 10 students attended the very enjoyable and fascinating talks.
Archway school has produced its own Untold Stories booklet which has allowed students who come from a variety of different cultural and linguistic backgrounds to tell their stories.
