Beauty and The Beast
The magic of fairy tale struck Archway School in February! Students’ production of Beauty and the Beast was performed to 220 students from local primary schools, followed by three sold out evening performances.
Students spent months rehearsing lines, songs and dance routines, with many also involved in the band, painting the set and organising props. It was a production that was a testament to the professionalism and teamwork of the students involved.
Belle, played by Rhiannon (Y9), is tired of her provincial life in the small French village with her father Maurice (Eddy Y11) and she is fed up of being constantly chased by the village brute, Gaston (Harvey Y11). The story takes them to a magical castle, full of enchanted objects. From candelabras that sing to hopping wardrobes, Belle begins to enjoy the magic and gets to know, and inevitably fall for, The Beast, played by Eddie (Y13). The love story sees good triumph over evil and, accompanied by a group of fantastic musicians and sees the magic of music take the story through well-known songs such as ‘Be Our Guest’ and ‘Tale as Old as Time.’
It was a week of enchantment, and students delivered performances with enthusiasm, professionalism and sophisticated flare. The show was truly spectacular and audiences were on their feet each night with rave reviews. Well done to all involved – we are incredibly proud of each and every one of you.
