The Year in Music
It has been another fantastic year in music! The dedication shown in the extra-curricular life of the department has been outstanding.
Students in the choir, ukulele club, guitar club, boomwhacker and music tech clubs have worked incredibly hard all year, giving up so much of their time to take on challenging new pieces. They are all gearing up for the final concert of the year which will take place on 11th July and is set to be a brilliant evening!
GCSE and A Level students have worked hard this year to deliver in their new courses, as well as taking opportunities to perform regularly as soloists. Years 10,11 and 13 music students also had a trip to see musical Wicked in February which gave everybody a lasting and inspiring impression of professional musicianship.
KS3 lessons have seen the development of skills in a variety of projects, from the blues to film music, iPads to samba kits, gamelan to singing – and students are now enjoying their end of year popular music projects.
The Christmas Concert and production of Beauty and the Beast earlier in the year, showcased student’s hard work and creativity across all year groups and I would like to take this opportunity to thank you all for your ongoing support of these events. I would also like to take this opportunity to wish Mr Hancock well in his new venture as a full time music teacher, we will miss you dearly!
I look forward to the Summer Concert and to September’s music making! - Miss R Auster
