The Brilliant Club trip to Cardiff University
Mr Salmon and I took 12 Year 8 students who have been taking part in the Scholars Programme as part of an organisation called The Brilliant Club to Cardiff University.
They have been participating in university-style tutorials with Dr Luke Williams on Engineering: Illuminating the body which covered how near-infrared light can help diagnose brain injuries in babies. They submitted a 1500 word essay which was then marked to university standards. The students had a tour of the university, an information and guidance session and the opportunity to speak to current university students. They then had their graduation ceremony where they were awarded a certificate for their hard work.
It was a lovely, if rather hot, day and the students gained a lot from the experience.
