The Year in Music!
It has been another fantastic year in music!
The dedication shown in the extra-curricular life of the department has been truly outstanding. Students who have made up the Choir, Ukulele Club, Boomwhacker Club and the cast for this year’s school production have worked incredibly hard all year, giving up so much of their time and producing outstanding performances. At the time of writing, we are in the final stages of preparations for our production of We Will Rock You and gearing up for what promises to be a fantastic show. Students will be doing a matinee performance to a group of primary school pupils, then hosting three public performances on the 9th, 10th and 11th of July. The stage has been built, the band have been rehearsing like mad, now let’s rock!
GCSE students have worked hard this year to deliver in their courses, as well as taking opportunities to perform regularly as soloists. Years 9 and 10 music students had a trip to see musical Wicked in London’s West End which gave everybody a lasting and inspiring impression of professional musicianship. KS3 lessons have seen the development of skills in a variety of projects, from the blues to film music, singing to samba, gamelan to keyboards – and students are now enjoying their end of year popular music projects.
The Christmas and Spring Concerts earlier in the year showcased students’ hard work and creativity across all year groups, and I would like to take this opportunity to thank you all for your ongoing support of these events. I would also like to thank Toby and Josephine , both in year 8, who have been complete superstars; they have been a part of every single music club and never missed a single rehearsal this year. Thank you for your dedication!
I look forward to rocking out the summer in style, and to September’s music making.
Have a wonderful summer!
