Stroud District School Games 2019/20
June has seen the culmination of another year of great impact with the Stroud District School Games programme from host school Archway.
The extensive range of activities and events has enabled young people of all ages, interests and abilities to access sports and physical activity through their primary, secondary and special schools.
With a total of 36 events including Archery, Sportability, Panathlon, Sportshall Athletics, Quick Sticks Hockey, Multi-skills, Softball, Table-tennis, Mountain Biking, Gymnastics and debating to name a few this year’s calendar has been the most far reaching yet, engaging more children who have a love of sport and P.E., reaching those who are building confidence in this area and finally providing diversity for those with special educational needs, enabling everyone to be involved.
Stroud School Games also saw the highest number of successful Games Mark awards in its history, with more schools making the Gold Mark and with this year’s application window open it’s proving a bumper year with greater reward for commitment for schools in the Stroud, Wotton and Dursley districts.
The programme has been strengthened further by work in partnership with important local organisations with the continual work with Active Gloucestershire, The Youth Sport Trust, Sport England, The Daily Mile and adding closer communication and partnership with Allsorts who provide inclusive activities locally.
Finally, the biggest impact has been the number of opportunities for children in the area, which has risen to the highest total for the past 4 years. With over 3000 opportunities to engage in sport and physical activity, we are building sustained participation and healthy living routines for local children.
