Archway Students Triumph at District Athletics!

On a glorious June summer's day Archway took 80 students to the Athletics District Event at the Prince of Wales Stadium to compete as one of 14 schools.

Some great performances were put into what is a very high quality event. The day couldn't have started any better with Merryn Hilton winning the Year 7 girls 1500m in the opening event, quickly followed by Jake Warner replicating it in the Year 7 boys 1500m with a well controlled victory. Joining both as the best athletes in the district were Stephen Mason in Year 7 discus, Ollie Williams in Year 7 long jump, Mason Le-Vance in Year 7 shot putt, Martha James in Year 7 long jump and Joe Williams in Year 9 long jump.

For the first time in over a decade and to top off a fantastic day, Archway recorded a team victory with the Year 7 team becoming the district champions, a title that can't be overstated. Those competing in Year 7 weren't born the last time the school recorded such a result, demonstrating the depth of squad and commitment of the athletes involved. A huge well done from the PE department.

For those who wish to take their athletics further, Stroud Athletic Club run session on Tuesday and Thursday evenings throughout the summer months. For more details visit their website or see the Sports Hall display for contact details.
