Archway School

Year 9 Football

At the time of writing, the Year 9 football team are eagerly awaiting the draw for the District semi-finals as they bid to become the first Archway football team to lift the District cup in over 6 years.

The pain of losing in the English Schools FA Cup 3rd round back in November spurred the team on to finish the regular league season, not only unbeaten, but with a 100% win record; 4-2 v Kingsdown, 4-3 v Millbrook, 13-3 v Rednock, 5-3 v Marling, and 2-1 v reigning District champions KLB. The foundation for the team’s success has been a solid defence; Bobby Mayo has been a revelation in goal this season, playing behind a regular back four including Toby Bruton, Fabio Caldarone, and Joe Wright, well marshalled by captain Aaron Barnes, conceding only 7 league goals all season. Laurence Taylor and Tom Connor-Webb have dominated central midfield, providing the possession for pacy wingers Oli Williams and Nathan Clift, who in turn have provided the ammunition for goalscorers Levi Mathews and Callum Scrivens, enabling the team to bang in a massive 26 goals so far.

Strength in depth from the substitutes bench has been provided by Steve Mason, Charlie Daniels, Mohamed Choudry, Harvey Farrugia, and Harvey Hatherhall-Jones.
