Gloucestershire School Games
Another of the many events we have been successful in this year is The Sainsbury's School Games.
Designed to inspire millions of young people across the country to take part in more competitive sport. The Gloucestershire School Games is part of a national programme of competitive sport that is open to all young people in every school from all districts of Gloucestershire.
The Level 2 games are district wide events, as a school we hosted the Archery and mountain biking as well as entering a range of activities at different schools accessible from Y7 toY13. At this level the aim was to get as many students as possible taking part in competitive sport. The winners of these events then went on to represent the county at the Level 3 games that took place at Hartpury College on Saturday 14th June. Archway were the district champions in both U15 softball and archery and were joined by a selection of horse riders who went to represent Stroud.
On a gloriously sunny day they came back with a fantastic selection of 4 medals - 2 bronzes from horse riding with Stephanie Smith in show jumping and Gabrielle Ellis in her dressage event, both winning Archway's first ever equestrian medals. As the day continued our Softball team went down to the last ball of the last game to win the silver with some outstanding performances from Adam Harrison, Nick Evans, Ellie Holmes and Charlotte Norris. The final medal of the day came from Archery where the team AAA (Archway Awesome Archers) came second in the county having had a superb morning and automatically qualifying for the final. Again it is another outstanding achievement, especially given star shooter Kathryn Frusher had to settle for a coaching role as a result of injury. We hope to replicate and build on this year’s success next year.
