Pupil Premium/Catch up funding

The Pupil Premium is allocated to a school, in addition to the main school funding, to help support children from low income families. Eligibility for the Pupil Premium is based on the students who are eligible for free school meals, or have been eligible during the last six years. The primary aim of this money is to support the achievement, and address the attainment gap, between children eligible for free school meals and their peers. The funding is fully utilised to help address the challenges and barriers that our students face ranging from academic support, specifically targeting literacy and numeracy, along with pastoral support to help address behaviour and attendance.

It is at the school’s discretion in terms of how the money is spent. Archway School has a robust system in place to enable appropriate intervention and support for its young people.

The amount of funding allocated to the school over the past three years has been:
For the year 2017/18 our Pupil Premium income is £199,480

For the year 2018/19 our Pupil Premium income is £174,365

For the year 2019/20 our Pupil Premium income is £174,000

The funding has been allocated in a variety of ways to support and improve access to the curriculum for our most vulnerable and disadvantaged students.

Pupil Premium Hardship Fund is used to provide a contribution for students to be able to access curriculum enrichment activities

Pupil Premium Targeted intervention and Resources - this allocated spend enables directly funded interventions to be provided to help complement work across all areas of school life.

Homework Club
Breakfast Club
The Brilliant Club
Team Building

Funding is also utilised by departments for subject specific materials to ensure that all students are fully supported in their learning; examples would include revision books or subject specific materials, visiting guests to work with targeted groups.

All interventions are reviewed throughout the academic year to determine their impact on the students in receipt of the support provided.

In addition to the Pupil Premium Archway School receives a year 7 Catch Up Premium of £10,124 2019/20. This funding is used to address the needs of those students who did not achieve the expected standard in reading or maths at the end of Key Stage 2.

Strategies to support students, using this funding, complement the Pupil Premium approach with a focus on personalised support in Maths and English at Key Stage 3 and the delivery of targeted interventions. It is also used to support delivery of the summer school and transition work undertaken to ensure that all students are fully prepared for their studies at Archway School.

Review of progress takes place after each data cut. The current strategy is continually reviewed however an annual review and new strategy takes place July 2020 and is confirmed September 2020 when the data and the new cohorts barriers have been assessed and the actual examination results are known.

We are asking all our parents to apply for Free School Meals if they think they might be eligible. If you apply and are successful your child does not have to have a school dinner if they’d rather not. However, it will mean that more money comes into school from which your child and other children will benefit.
